The final day of this course will include a field trip at the Logan Museum of Anthropology at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. Students will leave for home from Beloit and do not need to return to IPSC.
This course is an introduction to the care and management of ethnographic collections. Participants will gain an understanding of how the agents of deterioration impact the preservation of ethnographic collections (both organic and inorganic components) in storage and will practice mitigation techniques through hands-on activities. The course will also provide an introduction to the legal and ethical issues that impact the proper management of ethnographic collections. A field trip to the Logan Museum of Anthropology at Beloit College will provide participants the opportunity tointeract with a variety of ethnographic objects and to see high standards of collections stewardship in practice.
