Introduction to Exhibit Design

Date: September 5-7, 2018
This course will cover space design concepts, exhibit circulation, drawing using traditional and electronic tools, and the steps involved in creating a design package. In addition, this course will introduce conservation concerns and materials in the design of cases, the design of labels, and best practices for accessibility. The use of exhibit design software such as Vectorworks and SketchUp along with graphic software Photoshop and InDesign will help participants realize their designs. Participants are encouraged to bring images and rough plans of their exhibit spaces and be prepared to discuss problems their museum is facing in terms of exhibit presentation and design. In addition, the instructor will furnish electronic design templates to help students get started.
