    Introduction to Historical Administration

     

    Instructor: Matthew Toland

    Regular Registration: $1,100 

     

     

    Students will be introduced to the operations of historical museums, historical sites, libraries, and archives. Topics include public history, oral history, archives, museums, historic sites, historic preservation, and cultural resource management. Students will learn about resources, techniques, and best practices and explore some hands-on activities and practice new skills. Part of the class will be spent learning from working professionals by visiting a historic site, history museums, historical libraries, archives, and historic homes.

    INSTRUCTOR BIO:

    Matthew Toland has a BA in Women's Studies and a MA in Museum Studies from Western Illinois University. He is on the Boards of Directors for the Illinois State Historical Society, the Illinois Association of Museums, Quad Citians Affirming Diversity (QCAD), the Western Illinois University Alumni Council, and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Quad Cities. He enjoys traveling and visiting museum and spending time with his family.
